A whole new adventure...

An expression of my thoughts and feelings on my OT journey, both personal and professsional.

I have been in bed for over 24hours now...

...Because I am ill.
Painful ill, where I can't move, not that I have the energy to.
Where my head is pounding, nose running, and joints are achey.
I used a whole roll of toilet roll to stop my nose running in the past 24 hours.
I have no appetite, and periodically I feel sick.
Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow, because I hate being ill, with no one here to look after me.

Yesterday I managed to make it though all four hours of my skills seminar on wheelchairs. I really enjoyed this, as it is the more hands on part of my course. Although 99% of what we covered I learnt during my day with the wheelchair service during work experience. Just means my knowledge base is more secure I suppose!
The one thing I did learn however was the names of the different types of wheelchairs, and how to take one apart, put back together and describe all the different types of parts and accessories.
My favourite was the high performance chair, because I could be most active in it, 360 on the spot turns!! However I have to say, my reverse manoeuvring in the chair was probably better than my reverse parking in my car!! I don't really know what that says about me?!
My experience at the residential home put me in good stead for the wheelchair handling part of the seminar, because of course I had already learn this, through proper training an

I got my membership pack through from the College of OT. so I am now officially a student member! They kindly sent me a badge and a memory stick as little welcome gifts, which I think is a nice touch.
And I got my new medical card through, so I can be 'entitled to free nhs care' as if I wasn't already before...

I currently can't stop sneezing, and it's really annoying me, I always end up pulling my stomach muscles, and end up in more pain!!
So i really need to go shopping, mainly for toilet roll I must admit!!

I have a fair bit of work to do this weekend, but it shall be nice to crack on with it!
I don't think I've explained the types of assessment I've been given etc?
Firstly, in most modules except Concepts, I have no prereading to do. As the lectures are an introduction to the subject, after which we have to research and note take on top.
As in some modules, Anatomy and Physiology, for example, we learn so much in three hours, it is best to print of the slides and take notes against them, as we work through them far too fast to write our own notes!
As for the assessments:
1. Anatomy Wiki on 'Functional movement: identify and discuss factors that influence the movement at joints and ability to participate in functional activity' which just consolidates the work we've done each week; as the weeks go on the more we can write.
2. Presentation in Concepts, my group is doing learning disability!
3. My essay on a topic I need to think about for partnerships. Although its more about learning to reference than the actual topic I chose!!
4. and finally I have a 'library skills quiz' Essential to my learning apparently!!

I need to go shopping because I need to find an outfit, a fairly cheap outfit, for Ben's grandparents anniversary thing :) shopping where I actually buy stuff, yes!! I have missed that!!
I could also do with a hair cut :/ But as it's nonessential, it will have to wait! Although if that is my stance the entire way through uni I will be looking like a wookie for Graduation.

xx
