An expression of my thoughts and feelings on my OT journey, both personal and professsional.

Productive day, yay I like these sorts of days

Today was a good day. I chose the person for my case study, and have some ideas on what to do with it. I also decided to take advantage of the fact I had no groups meetings or appointments booked and took the chance to chat with a patient and decided to 'do a bit of cooking' or in other words, a cooking assessment. She was brilliant! Decided on the meal, bought the ingredients and prepared the meal with very little prompting which was nice to see the progress she'd made, although it was more to do with lack of  confidence rather skill. I got really good feedback from both her and the pt OT that was with me. I really like doing cooking assessments, as it can be a nice fun and informal way to get to know a patient. Also you can learn so much from it, not just the stuff you are looking for, but a wide variety of other things. The idea of the assessment is to assess for their Capacity for independent living – supportive factors vs prohibitive/risk factors. The assessment proforma I used with one written by the OTs from the trust. It looks at things such as budgeting, nutritional knowledge, planning sequencing and execution skills, problem solving, cooking techniques, food hygiene, and ability to clean and tidy after. It also assesses things like motivation, confidence, concentration, fine and gross motor function, and sensory impairments. That's a lot of information gathered from a simple cooking task!

I wrote up the report, and then wrote it again as the first one didn't save, grrr!!! Then I did some research and wrote the first part of my case study, yay for productivity!!

When I got in I hoovered and tidied, made my bed, did my washing, worked on my uni resource file, and booked tickets for tomorrow. I'm getting good at hand washing all my clothes, it saves me £5.50 a week...I'm not complaining.

I can't believe I have completed 5 weeks of my placement already! Only 4.5 weeks to go! I finish on the 15th May :)
