A whole new adventure...

An expression of my thoughts and feelings on my OT journey, both personal and professsional.

I hate waiting.

I'm ill. I want to be melodramatic and say I have the flu, but I don't it's just a cold, a bad one, but still just a cold. And it makes me grumpy and achey and miss uni. But it does show me how lovely my friends are, as I was brought a bottle of lucozade and some chicken noodle soup.
But yes, I hate waiting. I hate waiting for news of where I am going to be uprooted to and living for the next 10 days. I hate receiving an email that says 'Dear Lucie,Your new placement has been allocated.' but when I log in, it all says 'to be confirmed', which clearly doesn't mean it's been allocated. What it means, I found out from a rather snotty and blunt email, that I am actually on the waiting list, as they still haven't found enough placements. This is brilliant organization, considering we had the placement dates since September... But still, I've never had to organize 70 odd placements before, so I can't judge.

Being ill and grumpy, and stressed with the anticipation of waiting for the news is making writing my essays to meet my deadline difficult. But I have finally finished my EOP1 summary, so yay to that! And now I'm awake after spending all day in a dark room sleeping I am attempting to write out my draft appraisal. I have until friday, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Also, not really stressing out about the appraisal, for reasons I've mentioned before. But am avoiding the facebook group my peers are using to discuss it for a variety of reasons, however there's two that are the main issues... Firstly, they are over complicating things so much so that they are scaremongering and stressing people out for no reason. Secondly, they are all discussing answers/themes/topics and personally I find it hard not to repeat, almost parrot fashion, what I have read, which will become quite apparent to the markers. Similarly the answer the have collectively settled on may not be right. I'm not saying whether I believe it is or isn't just that it's a possibility, and one that I wish to avoid.

As long as the random shooting pains in my digits don't get too much, I will finish my initial draft tonight. yay. ow. zzzz

Been too busy to post...

Up to date with my uni work, two loads of washing done, room tidied, hoovered and polished, and my bedding changed. I went into town earlier, saw the Fabulous Baker Brothers at waterstones, had a crepe and a coffee and at 1pm decided that there was nothing left for me to do apart from go home and attempt doing more uni work. On. A. Saturday. So I did. I have researched all I needed to research, read all I needed to read and posted all I needed to post. Then I begun procrastination.

The garden.
This post will be one of several I assume as I have a lot I want to say/post and it won't necessarily be in the right order.

I spent the weekend at M+K's last weekend. Ahhh it was lovely - like staying in a hotel, with the worlds most comfortable bed! Had a lovely meal at a tapas place, which was very tasty. And there was snow, I got excited but at the same time rather anxious of it. It was so pretty, I did take a few pictures - but I've decided I like to look at it, but not have to be out in it or have to travel.
It was lovely to wake up and look out the garden to see some hairy cows in the field behind, a group of pheasants and lots of birds including robins, which, along with Michael singing Christmas songs, made it feel rather festive!! I had an absolutely lovely time, thank you both so much!! xx

Straight back into uni Monday morning after a lovely relaxing weekend. This semester, well the whole year in general really has been so interesting. Currently we are learning about Social Inclusion; Housing and Homelessness; Working with children with mental health problems; Occupational Science; Substance Misuse and Working in a Forensic Setting in the psychosocial module. As well as learning about Neurological conditions-Cerebral palsy; Moving and handling; normal development and play; Paediatric conditions & intervention; Paediatric assessment; DCD & Sensory Intergration and working with the neurologically involved child in my physical module.

For my psychosocial module I have a presentation and summary to complete. I've been working on this the past few nights, my presentation is finished, I just need to collate the slides for all 3 parts, and just rehearse with the girls on Monday, as the presentation is Tuesday. Which I'm not looking forward to, but as everyone is in the same boat I really shouldn't worry! Luckily the way I produced my working draft of notes for this is in a very similar format to that of the summary, so not a lot of work there, as I already have all my info. In addition to this I have a 1500 word critical analysis of an article to complete, I have appraised the article already using the standardised tool, and once my presentation is out of the way, I will get this done!!

It must look to anyone reading this that studies/has studied a more academic subject that I don't have a lot of work to do. In comparison with other essay based subjects, yes this is true. However, I have such a broad knowledge base to cover, and to know I cannot be expected to have exam on, or write an essay on every subject, as I would be forever doing so!! I research in more depth all topics, as we only really cover them once, and it is my responsibility as a student/ future practising OT to have a certain level of knowledge acceptable for practice. We cover both physical and mental training, and no not specialise whilst training, which although difficult does mean we have enough knowledge and skills to turn our hand to any speciality, generic post, or emerging role when qualified (or that is the idea!).

Goodbye Partnerships essay!

*waves*
It's finally done, submitted, gone!!! (I almost forgot to submit via TurnItIn too, but remembered about 5 minutes ago!)
I'm allowing myself this weekend to have a break, and then straight into exam revision!

See/speak to you all 21st December when I am officially done until the end of January!!! - Although I may find the odd 5 Minutes to post, I seem to spend all of my waking hours working, and staying in doors...Like a hermit... Hopefully a hermit with a job at the end of these 3 years!

What a beautiful day!

And productive too! Shame the weather wasn't great! :-/
Phone call of my father, sounds like he was having a nice walk looking at the cathedral. Rather jealous because it's so pretty!
Got a text of Jac, she's away too! Glad to hear she arrived safely! (Still jealous!)
Went to uni, did a few hours of A&P, even stayed behind to revise! Aren't I just the model student? :P

Met my lovely uncle who took me for lunch - chinese? Phoarrr luxury! Aaand to top it off a coffee and some muffins for later. Such a treat! And was so nice to see him and catch up! Hopefully going to go up and spend the weekend with him and Kim, as I keep missing her when she's down due to uni, it will be so nice to see her :D

Came home, met Clare, back to being a model student - we headed to the library to get books for the social sciences essay! (That library is like a maze!!!)
Came home, said Hi to Jas, Victoria and Kate. Discussed the essay over a cup of tea with Clare and bashed out 1000 words of a case study in two hours. Ace!!

It's now 10:30pm and I am about to chill! I think I'm allowed, it was a good day! :D
